Why Do We Use Soy Wax?

There are a few basics that go into candle making; the containers, the wicks, the fragrances, and the wax. At Glass Goat Soy Candles, we use 100% soy wax to make our candles. Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, so it burns more slowly and evenly than paraffin candles. Paraffin wax may be easier to pour, but it makes for a lower quality candle which will often leave behind an dark residue when burnt called petro-soot. Soy wax candles are completely free of petro-soot.

Soy wax candles also tend to have a natural scent diffusing quality, while paraffin wax must be combined with other chemicals in order to release fragrance. A lot of people find that paraffin wax candles irritate their noses; those chemicals are the reason why!

Finally, soy wax is bio-degradable and from a completely renewable, sustainable resource (soybeans!) Soy wax is a vegetable wax made by rolling cracked, de-hulled soybeans into flakes, then extracting the oil from those flakes. The oil is then hydrogenated, which makes it solid at room temperature. Our soy wax is 100% American grown and carbon neutral.
