    Favorite Things: Birdwell Beach Britches

This is the second installment of our Favorite Things series, our holiday gift guide in which each week someone will share one of their favorite things and why they love it. We hope this will help give you some ideas for gifting this season! This week's post comes to you from Scott: My name is Scott Ouderkirk and I live in the 1000 Islands area of New York, next to the St Lawrence River and the border of Canada. We struggle with harsh weather conditions for a good portion of

    Cold Green Tea

The only downside of having Wood Fired Pizza Saturdays is having "Oh wow I ate too much" Sundays and Mondays. This refreshing green tea drink is a perfect calming detox to get you through! Eucalyptus Mint Green Tea 4-5 mint leaves 1 tsp dried eucalyptus leaves (found at specialty or health food stores) 1 tbsp Gunpowder green tea lime zest Combine mint, eucalyptus, and green tea in a tea infuser in a glass. Start with a little hot water (just enough to cover the infuser) to ge

    Wintery Mint Julep

With all the cold winter weather lately, we needed a little bit of a pick-me-up and reminder of sunny days spent on the river. The only wintery thing about this drink is the snowball used in place of crushed ice! The dragonfly glasses are another reminder of warm summer days and can be purchased on our Etsy store HERE Snowball Mint Julep 8-10 mint leaves, plus extra sprig for garnish .75 oz simple syrup (equal parts sugar & water dissolved over heat and allowed to cool) .5 oz

    Capturing the Work

We post a lot of images of our work on facebook, instagram, and our blog. We print the images on note cards, posters, and in books. Our work comes in different sizes and shapes which leads to issues for us in lighting and backgrounds. Sometimes we have to come up with creative ideas so that we can manage to get the effects we want. This image shows Kenny trying shooting our new mermaid piece, which has yet to be named. It is a rather large circle, quite a bit bigger than any

    Visiting a River Legend

We have been spending too much time stoking the wood stove in the Glass Goat studio, so a couple of days ago Kenny and I made our way to Omar, NY to visit the studio of 1000 Islands artist Will Salisbury. You may know him as the man who created the giant crows that you can see on the side of NYS Rt. 81 southbound just past the Alexandria Bay entrance. Will is a legend on and around the St Lawrence River and I felt meeting him was an important component of Kenny's (and my) ong

    Glass Bee Blocks

Scott spent the day working with Lorraine Austin at Snake Oil Glassworks in Skaeateles, NY to make the glass blocks we use to make our Bee Blocks. Here is the process. Pouring the hot glass into the mold Heating the glass block in the mold We then bring the glass blocks back to Glass Goat, where we add the bee outline and hand matte each one to give it a custom, one of a kind look. Here is a picture of the finished product. (Buy it HERE) Check out Snake Oil Glassworks HERE Th
