The Salty Pup: Dry January Recipe
Happy New Year! I know a lot of people are participating in #dryjanuary this year, so I though I'd provide a few non-alcoholic cocktail recipes over the next couple of weeks that are just as special as their boozy counterparts! Some will be variations on classic cocktails, while others will be unique. First up: The Salty Pup, a variation on one of my favorite citrusy cocktails- The Salty Dog: I used pomelo instead of grapefruit as the base for this recipe because I love the a

Why Do We Use Soy Wax?
There are a few basics that go into candle making; the containers, the wicks, the fragrances, and the wax. At Glass Goat Soy Candles, we use 100% soy wax to make our candles. Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax, so it burns more slowly and evenly than paraffin candles. Paraffin wax may be easier to pour, but it makes for a lower quality candle which will often leave behind an dark residue when burnt called petro-soot. Soy wax candles are completely free of pet

Sweet Pea: Market to Glass Cocktail Recipe
I found these beautiful sweet pea leaves, flowers, and tendrils at the Magnolia Farmers Market yesterday and I really wanted to come up with a way to use them in a cocktail. Mt first thought was a gin & tonic, and I went from there. The result is a semi-sweet, very fresh tasting cocktail that gets its brightness from a quick pea leaf simple syrup. There's a lot less sugar in the simple syrup than in a classic simple syrup, since most of the sweetness comes from the pea leaves

Homemade Peppermint Patties
These homemade peppermint patties are my new favorite thing. They taste just like the York kind, but even better. We're currently working on a recipe using honey as a sweetener, so be on the lookout for that! But for now, here's the original recipe: 1/4 cup softened butter 1/3 cup light corn syrup 1/2 tsp peppermint extract (I like Frontier Co-op's organic Mint Extract) 3 cups powdered sugar 2 cups dark dipping chocolate · Mix butter, corn syrup, peppermint extract, and powde

Rose Hip & Vanilla Meringues
This is my first attempt at making flavored meringues, but they turned out quite well! They were surprisingly easy (although time consuming.) I used very fresh eggs -like from this morning- and I think it may have actually made the whisking more difficult. I hand-whisked mine but you can, and probably should, use a stand mixer. I made two batches, one with just vanilla and one rose flavored. Follow the instructions separately for each batch. The towel pictured can be purchase

DIY Coffee Bitters
I just began experimenting with making our own bitters at Glass Goat, including the coffee bitters here. I used my favorite coffee beans, the Hayes Valley Espresso roast from Blue Bottle Coffee in Oakland, California. I'm about halfway through the process with these right now, so I thought I'd share how it's going so far. I used instructions from the kitchn and tweaked them a little to make my bitters. I also have lavender, juniper, and orange and clove in the works right now

River Road Farm Bee's Knees
This take on the Bee's Knees cocktail has a stronger honey presence than the classic. Our River Road Farm honey is really mild; it's delicate enough that it won't overpower the other flavors in the drink. The goat rocks glass pictured can be purchased here. River Road Farm Bee's Knees 1.5 oz gin 1.5 oz honey syrup (recipe HERE ) .75 oz lemon juice extra honey for garnish Combine all ingredients in a stirring glass and stir until chilled. Nerdist Stained Glass
More often than not, there is a podcast playing out in the studio while we're working. A particular favorite is Chris Hardwick's Nerdist podcast. Chris Hardwick (for those who may not know!) is the host of The Wall, The Talking Dead, and At Midnight. About a month ago, Kenny decided to make a full piece of stained glass inspired by the podcast. He sketched for a while and finally decided on an image of Chris and Reggie Watts doing the podcast, with "Enjoy Your Burrito" stretc
